Los Angeles: The Devil Wears Prada 2 has crossed another major box office milestone, earning more than $433 million globally within just two weekends of release.

The highly anticipated sequel starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci has emerged as one of the biggest Hollywood successes of 2026 so far.

The film, produced by Disney, was reportedly made on a budget of approximately $100 million and is now expected to finish its theatrical run between $650 million and $750 million worldwide.

Sequel surpasses original film’s earnings

According to reports, the sequel surpassed the lifetime worldwide earnings of the original 2006 film in just nine days after release.

The first The Devil Wears Prada had earned around $326 million globally during its theatrical run.

In comparison, the sequel has already grossed more than $433 million worldwide within two weekends.

The film reportedly collected $144 million in North America while earning an impressive $288 million across 51 international territories.

Industry experts say the strong overseas performance has exceeded trade expectations and turned the film into a major global blockbuster.

International markets boost collections

The film has witnessed particularly strong response in international markets.

Reports suggest the United Kingdom and Italy each contributed approximately $28 million to the global total.

Italy’s performance has drawn special attention because portions of the sequel were filmed there.

Other strong-performing territories include Brazil with nearly $22 million and Mexico with around $20 million in collections.

Trade analysts believe nostalgia surrounding the original film, combined with the return of its iconic cast, has significantly boosted audience turnout across markets.

The sequel’s success has also helped Disney become the first Hollywood studio in 2026 to cross $2 billion in worldwide ticket sales this year.

Original cast reunites after two decades

The film reunites the central cast from the original movie nearly 20 years later.

Meryl Streep returned as the powerful fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, while Anne Hathaway reprised her role as Andy Sachs.

Emily Blunt returned as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci reprised his fan-favourite role of Nigel Kipling.

The sequel is once again directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Reports indicate that the cast and creative team waited nearly two decades before agreeing to return because they wanted a storyline that justified a sequel to the cult classic.

Industry insiders also suggested there had initially been uncertainty over whether Meryl Streep would return, as the Oscar-winning actress has appeared in very few sequels throughout her career.

Lead stars set for major bonuses

The film’s unexpected box office success is also expected to significantly increase the earnings of its lead actors.

Reports state that Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt each received around $12.5 million upfront under a “favoured nations” salary agreement ensuring equal pay among the trio.

Streep reportedly insisted during negotiations that all three leading actresses receive identical compensation.

With box office bonuses included, each actor’s earnings could reportedly rise to nearly $20 million by the end of the film’s theatrical run.

A substantial portion of the film’s reported $100 million production budget is believed to have been spent on cast salaries and production commitments.

Strong theatrical run continues

Box office analysts believe the sequel still has strong momentum and could continue performing well through the coming months.

The film’s blend of fashion, comedy, nostalgia and returning characters has resonated strongly with audiences across age groups.

The original movie, released in 2006, became a pop culture phenomenon and remains one of the most beloved fashion-themed films globally.

With strong international collections and continued audience interest, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now on track to become one of the year’s biggest commercial successes for Disney.
