Dammam: The Tulu film Jai, presented by Dammam Billavas Saudi Arabia, received an overwhelming response during its premiere at Vox Cinemas in West Avenue Mall, Dammam, and Galleria Mall, Jubail, on 13 November. This marks only the second Tulu movie ever released in Saudi Arabia, making the occasion a historic moment for the Tulu-speaking community in the region.
Community leaders highlight pride in Tulu identity
Addressing the gathering, Sathish Kumar Bajal said the film’s release symbolised the deep-rooted bond Tuluvas carry with their homeland.
“Tulu and Tulunadu are in our blood. Wherever we go, we support our people. ‘Jai’ is our movie, and this is only the second Tulu film to be released here,” he remarked.
He added that navigating film release procedures in Saudi Arabia is complex, and appreciated the censor board team for their continuous support.
Film praised for showcasing Tulunadu’s culture and issues
Intermodal Global Co. Manager Sadashiva Poojary highlighted the film’s portrayal of coastal Karnataka’s scenic beauty and cultural vibrancy.
He noted that Jai reflects real-life challenges faced by common people, particularly how youth are influenced by societal leaders.
He praised performances by:
- Aravind Bolar, for his standout comedy
- Roopesh Shetty, the lead actor, for his promising screen presence
- Raj Deepak Shetty, for a strong performance as antagonist
He described the film as engaging and family-friendly, keeping viewers hooked till the end. He added that the Dammam Billavas team looks forward to more Tulu films reaching audiences in Saudi Arabia.
