Actor Varun Dhawan sparked online chatter after a video showed him performing pull-ups inside a Mumbai Metro coach, prompting a sharp safety reminder from metro authorities.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the actor chose to travel by metro to avoid traffic while heading for a surprise visit to a cinema hall. Earlier in the day, Dhawan had shared an Instagram story from inside the metro, asking followers to guess which theatre he was going to. Soon after, videos surfaced showing him holding an overhead metal bar and doing pull-ups as fellow commuters watched.
Metro authority issues advisory
The viral clip caught the attention of the Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL), which reshared the video on its official social media handle along with a firm safety advisory.
“This video should have come with a disclaimer like the ones in your action movies. Do not try this on Maha Mumbai Metro,” the post read, adding that grab handles are meant for passenger support, not for hanging or exercise.
The corporation warned that such actions could attract penalties under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, including fines or imprisonment depending on the severity of the offence. It urged commuters to “travel responsibly” and follow civic rules.
Film continues box office run
The moment came as Dhawan continues to enjoy success with Border 2, a war drama also starring Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is a sequel to J. P. Dutta’s 1997 classic Border and is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war. According to trade estimates, the film has collected ₹144.65 crore so far.
While fans enjoyed Dhawan’s fitness display, metro officials stressed that safety norms apply to everyone, celebrities included.
