Thalapathy Vijay has taken a strong stand regarding the sale of distribution rights for his highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan. While all major scenes featuring the actor have been wrapped up, filming continues for supporting cast sequences. The film is slated for release on January 8, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival.

Amazon Prime Video has already bagged the OTT rights, while Sun TV has secured satellite broadcasting. With the post-production and remaining shoot underway, attention now shifts to finalizing theatrical distribution deals.

According to The Hindu, Vijay has clearly communicated to the producers that he doesn’t want any firm with political links to be involved in distributing the film. This directive is part of his broader attempt to maintain neutrality and avoid political associations—especially significant as he moves closer to active public engagement and political life. His firm stance has reportedly led some potential distributors to reconsider their bids.

Romeo Pictures, which handled distribution for Vijay’s last release GOAT, was initially in the race for the Tamil Nadu rights. However, following Vijay’s condition, the company has opted out. Now, Lalit Kumar is speculated to be the front-runner. If a deal with him doesn’t materialize, Kalaipuli S. Thanu may step in. This non-political policy will reportedly extend to distribution rights in other regions as well.

Directed by H. Vinoth, the film boasts a stellar cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Gautham Menon, Priyamani, and Mamitha Baiju. Music is by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Satyan Sooryan.
