Bengaluru: The makers of Toxic have finally announced a new release date for the much-awaited film, bringing an end to months of speculation and multiple postponements. Headlined by Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action drama is now set to release in cinemas worldwide on August 26, 2026.

The announcement comes a day after the film’s official social media handles shared a cryptic post that read, “Got plans for tomorrow?”, triggering excitement among fans and fuelling speculation about a major update.

As anticipated, the makers have now officially confirmed the theatrical release date, ending months of uncertainty surrounding one of the most eagerly awaited Indian films.

Film’s release journey marked by delays

Toxic has had an eventful journey to the big screen.

When the project was first announced, the film was scheduled to hit theatres on April 10, 2025. However, the ambitious scale of the production and an extensive shooting schedule led to delays.

The film features a star-studded cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi alongside Yash.

Principal photography reportedly continued longer than expected before finally wrapping up in October 2025. Following this, the makers shifted the release date to March 19, 2026.

However, just weeks before the scheduled release, another postponement was announced.

Middle East tensions affected release plans

The producers had cited geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as a key reason for delaying the film’s release.

The Middle East remains one of the most important overseas markets for Indian cinema, and the makers reportedly chose to avoid a potentially affected international rollout.

Subsequently, the film was rescheduled for release on June 4, 2026. Yet another delay followed as the team continued refining the project and completing post-production work.

The latest announcement finally confirms that the film will arrive in theatres on August 26, 2026.

Box office clash on the cards

The new release date places Toxic just two days ahead of the release of Eetha, featuring Shraddha Kapoor, which is scheduled to hit theatres on August 28, 2026.

Although no other major releases have been announced for the same period, the proximity of the two films could make the final week of August one of the most closely watched windows at the box office.

Trade analysts are expected to closely monitor whether the two releases affect each other’s collections or whether both films can successfully attract audiences.

One of the year’s most anticipated films

Toxic has generated significant buzz ever since it was announced, largely because it marks Yash’s first major release after the blockbuster success of the K.G.F: Chapter 2.

The film has also drawn attention due to its international production scale and the collaboration between Yash and National Award-winning filmmaker Geetu Mohandas.

With the release date finally locked, fans can now look forward to witnessing one of the most anticipated Indian films of the year on the big screen in August.
