Bengaluru: Kannada superstar Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups has once again been postponed, with the makers confirming that it will no longer release on June 4 and will instead hit theatres on a “globally aligned date”.

The announcement comes after the film had already deferred its earlier planned release in March, signalling the team’s intent to position the project for a wider international audience.

Makers aim for global impact

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Yash revealed that the decision to delay the release was driven by the film’s global ambitions and the overwhelming response it received during its presentation at CinemaCon.

“There are films we make, and then there are films that remind us why we fell in love with cinema. Toxic has been one such journey,” Yash said.

He added that the enthusiastic reception at CinemaCon reaffirmed the team’s belief that the film deserves a large-scale global rollout.

Release pushed for global alignment

Yash confirmed that while the shooting of the film has been completed, the team is currently working on finalising international distribution strategies and partnerships.

“Toxic is complete, and we are currently aligning global distribution and partnerships. In light of this, we have decided to recalibrate our release timeline,” he said.

He further clarified that the film will not release on June 4 as previously announced and will instead arrive in theatres worldwide at a later date.

“We will be releasing our film at a later, globally aligned date. Toxic will come to theatres across the world soon,” the statement added.

Earlier delay due to geopolitical concerns

The film had earlier skipped its planned March release, citing global uncertainties, particularly tensions in the Middle East. The makers had stated that the situation could affect the film’s ability to reach audiences across regions.

Yash had then emphasised that the project was conceptualised with a vision to cater to a global audience and that external factors should not hinder its reach.

“The current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to connect with the widest possible audience,” the earlier note had stated.

Raising the bar for Indian cinema

Highlighting the evolving global footprint of Indian films, Yash noted that the industry is at a crucial stage where it is gaining international recognition.

“As an actor-producer, I see this moment as an opportunity to do my part for the Indian film industry by ensuring our film reaches the world with the impact it is meant to have,” he said.

He stressed that taking additional time to perfect the release strategy would help maximise the film’s global reach and reception.

Gratitude to fans and promise of quality

Yash also expressed gratitude to fans for their continued support throughout the film’s journey, despite multiple delays.

“Through every step and every change, your support has stayed with me, and I carry it with deep gratitude,” he said.

He assured audiences that the wait would be worthwhile, promising a cinematic experience that would stand out on the global stage.

“Some stories ask for patience. We promise to give you a film to enjoy and celebrate—a film that will stand as a proud moment for Indian cinema,” he added.

Film details and cast

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Venkat K. Narayana along with Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.

The film has been shot in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam, reflecting its pan-India and global aspirations.

It features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

Conclusion

With its release now pushed to a globally aligned date, Toxic is positioning itself as a major international offering from Indian cinema.
