Mangaluru: The hostel students of AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) celebrated Diwali on Oct 30 at the Arthur Shenoi Auditorium.
Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director, AIMIT, led the students’ gathering in a bhajan. This was followed by a welcome dance.
Lestan D’Souza, the Warden of the AIMIT hostels and program coordinator, gave an introduction of the festival and welcomed the gathering. A video clip by Sadguru explaining the meaning of Diwali was played on the occasion.
There was an inter-religious prayer service and three students read passages from the Bhagavatgeeta, Koran and the New Testament of the Holy Bible, highlighting the meaning of “light” in Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.
Rev. Fr Dionyisus Vaz SJ, Rector, Aloysian Institutions, who was also present, gave an inspiring message to the students highlighting the importance of coming together to celebrate the feast and experiencing unity, which is very important for our country.
Seventeen students of Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance ( PGDBF), the one year residential course for the selected candidates for Catholic Syrian Bank, offered saplings of fruit trees as as part of the ‘green initiative’.
Students of the ladies hostel entertained the gathering with a dance. The programme ended with sumptuous food in the food court of the Institute.
