Athena Student Nurses Association observe intl Nurses day

Mangaluru: The Student Nurses Association, a unit of Athena Institute of Health Sciences celebrated International Nurses day on May 16, 10.00 am at the college auditorium, in order to commemorate the birthday of the foundress Florence Nightingale.

The program began by invoking God’s blessing through a prayer song by IV year B.Sc (N) students. Sandhya Almeida Professor OBG department, Laxmi college of Nursing graced the programme as the chief guest and DrAshith Shettian, Trustee. Athena Institute of Health Sciences presided over the function. Principal Rev.Sr Deepa Peter, welcomed the gathering.

The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the Nightingale lamp and garlanding of the portrait of Florence Nightingale by the chief guest. Viola D Souza SNA Co-Advisor read the report on the Nurses day celebration and Annual sports day. We were fortunate and overwhelmed to honour Rev.Sr Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal, AIHS who received the Florence Nightingale Award 2021, followed by her message where she expressed her feeling on receiving the prestigious award.

Prof. Sharlet D Souza, SNA advisor announced the winner’s list of the competition held during International Nurses Week and the Chief guest awarded the winners. Prof. Sandhya Almeida addressed the gathering and appreciated the hard work of midwives across the world and stressed that knowledge is important in order to serve humanity. She encouraged the present generation to keep upgrading their knowledge in healthcare.

Dr Ashith Shettian congratulated the nurses for their services rendered to healthcare; which was followed by a short cultural programme. Anaklita Misquith, Lecturer Pediatric department expressed her gratitude to all gathered. The programme concluded with the college Anthem. The programme was compered by Rashmi Rajesh and Lenisha D’sa students of II years B.Sc. nursing.

After a short break, a panel discussion was conducted by the M.Sc nursing students based on the Nurse’s Day theme “Nurses: A voice to lead – invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health”.
