Mangaluru: The Mount Carmel Central School had organised a blood donation and health check-up camp on August, 27, as one of the 10-Point Programmes of the Decennial Year Celebration, to set an example for budding students in community service involvement.
On Sunday morning, when the parents and well-wishers of MCCS woke up with the lark, instead of taking a walk to the park, they went all enthused to the call of MCCS Blood donation drive in association with A J Hospital and Institute of Medical Science.
Along with the blood donation drive, awareness was created on pledging the organs and stem cells as well.
The camp commenced with a prayer song. Principal Sr. Melissa welcomed the gathering with mixed emotions of joy and gratitude. She cited, “Blood is our Prana and to share the Prana with others is nobility. Give, for you are given to give…”
Guest of Honour, celebrity Soujanya Hegde who won the Mrs. Popular at Haute Monde Mrs. India Worldwide 2017 pageant, held in Delhi on 5 August 2017, said that at MCCS, education had gone beyond books by organising this blood donation drive and she was happy to be a part of school family.
Chief Guest Dr. Prashanth Marla, Managing Director of A J Hospital and Research Centre, cited the advantages of blood donation. He also said, “As we are diligent about our vehicle and property insurance, we also need to be more diligent regarding our annual health check-up.” He created awareness about organ pledging and hoped for a better response to this noble cause too.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Leena Jose. Philomena Pinto compered the programme with sensitivity.
There was a good response from staff, parents, well-wishers and neighbours for blood donation. More than a hundred registered and donated blood, while some of them returned disappointed as they were not fit to do so.
Around 30 people pledged for organ donation and some others for stem cells donation while many availed the benefits of general health check-up. It was satisfying to see so many responding to this humble call of MCCS. The saying goes true, “Blood is meant to circulate. Pass it on.” May be they have done little today to save a life, but surely it will save someone’s life in a greater way tomorrow. The blood donation camp wound up at around 2 PM. The school lauded the whole-hearted cooperation rendered by the staff, student leaders and PTEC members in the successful organisation of the event.
Being the Decennial year of the School, the school has pledged to continue its journey as a pioneering and a progressing educational institution, keeping the community they serve at heart.
