DSW Yenepoya holds workshop on Therapeutic Counselling

Mangaluru: Department of Social Work conducted a two-day workshop on Therapeutic Counselling Interventions on 2 and 3 June 2023 at Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences campus at Mudipu.

Dr B.H Sripathi Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was the chief guest and Dr Sunita Saldanha Dean-Yenepoya Allied Healthcare and Professions was the guest of honour. Dr B.H Sripathi Rao spoke on the importance of counselling in patient care and the role of social workers in alleviating the problems of various categories of clients in their professional careers. Dr Sunita Saldanha in her speech highlighted the mental health problems of the students and opined counsellors would have challenging roles in resolving such issues.

Dr Mohammed Guthigar, head of the Department of Social Work welcomed and Reeti Rastogi, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Clinical Psychology briefed the objectives of the workshop. Prof. Ismail B, HOD Department of Statistics and Dr Gladys Colaco, Associate Professor and organizing Secretary, Department of Social Work were present on the dais.

Zuha proposed a vote of thanks and Ashitha Shaneejan, 2nd year MSW student compeered the programme.

Vicky Josvita DSouza, Reeti Rastogi, Shwetha B and Soumya Puthran, the teaching faculty from the Department of Clinical Psychology and Yencourage Rehabilitation Center, YNH Kankanady were the resource persons who conducted sessions on Stress management, Supportive psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational enhancement therapy and Life skills education for adolescents. The PG students of Social Work and Clinical psychology were the participants.
