Mangaluru: Blood Transfusion Services is a vital part of the modern health care system without which, efficient medical care is impossible. In order to spread awareness about the advances in this field, the Department of Pathology, Father Muller Medical College in association with the Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine, organised a National CME on Transfusion Medicine, “TRANSCME 2017” with the theme, “Evidence based Transfusion Medicine” on December 2.
Dr. Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent, welcomed all those gathered at the TRANSCME 2017. Dr. Jayaprakash C S, Organizing Chairperson, Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, Father Muller Medical College introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. R N Makroo.
Dr. R N Makroo, President, Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine, Director and Senior Consultant, Department of Transfusion Medicine, Molecular Biology & Transplant immunology, Apollo Hospital, New Delhi was the Chief Guest for the programme. In his address to the gathering, he said that transfusion medicine is an emerging field as volunteer blood donors and rationale use of blood are pivotal to ensure a safe blood transfusion.
Rev Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, presided over the function and in his address, spoke about the advances taking place in this field of medicine. “Eminent speakers in the field of transfusion medicine have come to give a feast of knowledge to all the delegates,” he said.
Dr. Kirana Pailoor, Organising Secretary, Associate Professor of Pathology and In-charge Blood Bank Officer, Father Muller Medical College Hospital proposed the vote of thanks. Rev Fr Ajith Menezes, Administrator Father Muller Medical College, Rev Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, and Rev Fr Jeevan George Sequeira were present at the function.
