Mangaluru: The Global Convention 14 was held on the NITK campus on Dec 23 and 24, 2022, by the NITK Surathkal Alumni Association. Over 500 alumni and their families attended the GC-14, including alumni from all the chapters throughout the departments. GC-14 included several academic, cultural, and creative activities and programs. The NITK Alumni Association has organised the “Global Convention 14 in the Milieu of Diamond Jubilee (2020)” at the NITK campus.

The two-day programme had four sessions, and over 500 alumni and their families attended GC-14, including alumni from all the chapters throughout the departments. GC-14 included several academic, cultural, and creative activities and programmes performed by NITK alumni. Prof. Trilochan Sastry, an NITK alumnus and member of the Bretton Woods Committee since 2009, the Academic Council, Vivekananda University, Belur Math, a Board Member, and Dean (Academic) IIM, Bangalore, was the event’s chief guest. The Guest of Honor was NITK alumnus, Rangan Ramasamy, who is in charge of aircraft certification and continuous operational safety of aircraft and rotorcraft in four states: Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Kirtiraj Salian (Global President, NITKSAA), S.R. Bala (General Secretary, NITKSAA), and V.B. Parvatikar (Convenor GC-14, Alumnus NITK) are the organising chairs of GC-14.

Prof. Prasad Krishna, who graduated from NITK and is currently the Director, Additional Charge, delivered the president’s speech. In order to include the alumni, according to Prof. Prasad Krishna, NITK is working to create a distinctive corporate model. In addition, he thanked all of the alumni who joined the GC-14 at NITK.

As part of a unique opportunity created by the MoE and GoI to train and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions about their expertise in various sectors, he also asked the alumni to become involved with their alma mater and teach the current generation via Professors of Practice. As indicated by the MOE Minister during his recent visit to the NITK 20th Annual Convocation in the month of October 2022, he also expressed his joy at the prospect of creating a dedicated department for sustainability.

After the digital release of Souvenir, the “SEG Impact E-Dirt Bike” was released during GC-14 at NITK. It was designed and built by CSD and NITK in collaboration with SEG Automotive and was backed by the 1979 batch “Impact 79.”

The director along with the Global President-NITKSAA, Chief Guests and Guests of Honour, the Registrar, and Dean AAIR during the inaugural ceremony of NITK Alumni Association GC-14 at NITK.

This bike is an off-road-capable vehicle designed to aid in all rescue efforts. This may be advantageous for NDRF-Rescue in avalanche zones, landslide areas, and other locations prone to natural catastrophes, as well as for coastal police, military, and Coast Guard personnel in sandy or muddy terrain. It is an anti-poaching vehicle that forest authorities may employ. The development is assisted by CSDs, NITK Surathkal, and the EMOBILTY team. Dr. Pruthviraj U, Head of e-mobility at CSDD r. K. V. During the GC-14, there was an ‘Entrepreneur’s Lane” to display products developed/produced by alumni across the globe. Valves, material handling equipment, drone maintenance services, polyurethane rollers, etc. are some of the products displayed.

There was an ‘Author’s Corridor’ that took place to exhibit books written by NITK alumni. More than 35 authors displayed their books during the event, also, an author’s workshop was scheduled, and Indian author Vasudhendra addressed the gathering on ” Why Literature for Engineers “. Chief Guests and alumni of various batches also visited the Central Research Facility (CRF), the Center for System Design (CSD), and Maire Tecnimont Research Centre/ Waste Recycling and Circular Economy.
