HackToFuture 2.0 Hackathon at SJEC draws 150+ participants

Mangaluru: “At EG, we have been building world-class products, and we want to continue building them not just in our ecosystem in Denmark but also by creating transformative products here in Mangaluru,” said Alan Bech, CTO –  EGDK, at the conclusion of the HackToFuture 2.0 Hackathon at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) on Wednesday, Feb 21.

EG India Pvt Ltd and SJEC organized a 36-hour hackathon from February 19 to 21 at the Kalam Auditorium. Over 150 engineering students participated at the SJEC campus, working together on creative solutions in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, and Social Innovation.

Allan Bech, CTO – EGDK; Erik Tomren, Executive Vice President – EGDK; Jacob Buchardt, Vice President Corporate PMO – EGDK; Anand Fernandes, CEO & Director – EG India Pvt Ltd; and Jeevan D’Souza, Country HR Lead – EG India Pvt Ltd, awarded the winners of the hackathon.

The winners across the four tracks walked away with a total cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs.

The HackToFuture 2.0 Hackathon witnessed remarkable displays of innovation and prowess as teams battled it out in various categories. In the category of Artificial Intelligence, Team Gabbar Singhs from SJEC emerged victorious, showcasing their ingenuity, while the runner-up position was secured by Team code commandos hailing from NMAMIT, Nitte.

In the realm of Blockchain, Team Digital Voyages from Sri Sairam College of Engineering clinched the top spot, while the runner-up title went to Team CODIUM, representing P A College of Engineering. Cybersecurity saw Team FullStackSlayers from NITK Surathkal as the triumphant winner, followed by Team Jinsei from SJEC.

In the Open Theme category, Team Cyrus claimed the winner’s title, closely followed by Team ShurikenSyntax, also from SJEC. These victories not only underscore the depth of talent but also highlight the collaborative spirit that defined this exhilarating hackathon event.

Allan Bech was impressed by the students’ use of emerging technologies to tackle industry-specific problems. He emphasized the need for them to work together to strengthen their innovations and support the transformation of this region into a thriving technology hub.

Erik Tomren highlighted the significance of creating a sustainable impact on clients and society, stressing the importance of addressing the challenges faced by the world. He underscored the collaborative efforts needed to promote innovation and address global issues, aiming to make a positive and lasting difference in both the business community and broader society.

Jacob spoke about the opportunities in the ever-growing technology sector, particularly in Mangalore where he found a more conducive environment for professional growth.

The HackToFuture 2.0 hackathon was hosted to spark collaboration between young innovators and industry experts, all to shape a better future.

With over 1600 registrations from 13 states across India, enthusiasm ran high as the top 40 teams were shortlisted based on their abstract.

The final round showcased more than 150 students fervently bringing their ideas to life, fueled by collaboration and creativity in 36 exciting hours.
