Mangaluru: The department of Pathology of the Father Muller Medical College in association with Horiba India Technical Institute began their National Level Continuing Medical Education Programme HAEM-INSIGHT on Jan 19 2023 in the Father Muller Decennial Memorial Hall.

Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions, whose address to learn and unlearn at every stage in life, to better ourselves struck a chord with the gathered. The important roles played by transfusion medicine and laboratory medicine in healthcare are enormous. Blood the life-giving fluid and its diseases need to have true academician and this CME will highlight the same.

Chief Guest and prominent speaker, Dr Sukesh C Nair, Prof of Transfusion medicine and haematology CMC Vellore, quipped that he sees morphology in everything and this has made him ever more interested in the science of haematology. The founder of CMC Ida Scudder called the hospital the Kingdom of God for the alleviation of suffering and the smile that the person exudes brings in peace. The interactive approach between the various medical departments is given prime importance in CMC, thus it helps in overcoming mistakes and also brings in new knowledge to the institute. Thus this CME, a collaboration of departments for the betterment of patients will bear fruit.

The Department of Pathology & the Horiba India Technical Institute is organizing this national CME with the intent of enlightening the delegates with topics ranging from the basics of haematology to recent advances such as the application of artificial intelligence in morphological diagnosis.

The highlights include talks by eminent speakers, interesting case discussions, an E-poster competition a platform for postgraduates to pit their knowledge against each other in a QUIZ and CME credit points from Karnataka Medical Council (in the process)

Dr Umashankar T Prof and Head Dept of Pathology FMMC welcomed the gathering and laid the importance of the CME in the new year. Dr Reshma G. Kini proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Stephanie compered the inaugural event.

Fr Ajith B Menezes Admin FMMC, Dr Arvind KMC Observer and Prof of Pathology AJIMS, Dr Antony Sylvan Dean FMMC graced the dais. Members of the management committee, faculty staff of various medical colleges and delegates were among the audience.

The day-long CME will focus on newer trends in pathology and haematology, Interesting cases in haematology, Visible and Invisible Clues – Interpretation of histograms, matrix, flags and alarms, and Artificial Intelligence The digital morphology systems, by in-house and eminent faculties and resource persons; Dr Sukesh C Nair, Dr Aparna Jairam, Dr Pushkar Admane, Dr Sridevi H B, Dr Sindhura Lakshmi K. L, Dr Lovely George, Dr Cheryl Sarah Philipose, Dr Umashankar T, Dr Reshma G. Kini, Dr Crysle Saldanha, Dr Archana Bhat and Dr Chandni Bhandary
