Mangaluru: ‘In-Unity 2K19’ was organised at the Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on Saturday, December 2. The event was held with the intention of fuelling the passion to innovate and lead the youth of the country.

On the occasion, Sahyadri College hosted three eminent personalities such as Agency for Innovative Development of Regions Chairman Elena Churina, Singapore University Technology Design Entrepreneurship Adjunct Associate Professor Kim Peng Foo, and Head of Science and Technology Wing of the Embassy of India (Moscow) Dr. Abhishek Vaish as the panel of judges.

In India, innovation is still not the epicenter of education. In order to achieve this cultural shift and to ensure that innovation and start-up culture is the primary fulcrum of the higher education system, a lot of initiatives have been taken at the government level.

Over the decade, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management has emerged as an innovation hub in the region through its initiatives to drive community-based innovations and practices that have given rise to industries and start-ups in the region.

An insight into In-Unity 2k19
A campus tour was conducted to give a clear insight into what Sahyadri College is doing, what its vision is, and how it is realising this vision.

Fifteen teams, including winners of the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) 2019, pitched their ideas to a panel of judges. Each team was allotted 5 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for a Q&A session. These shortlisted projects had undergone training for the last two weeks to help pitch these ideas.

What SSTH strives to do?
• Sensitise 15000+ individuals to the community problems and encourage them to be problem solvers rather than solution seekers.
• Create a platform for 2500+ budding enthusiasts and innovators across schools and colleges to propose solutions for community-based problems.
• Create a platform for local innovators. Investors, industrialists, influencers to support and nurture ideas that can uplift the lifestyle of the individuals of the community
• To incubate 5 ideas that have the potential to impact the lives of many.

Round Table Conference was held on the following topics
• Creating a global innovation ecosystem.
• Capacity Building through international Collaboration
• Making start-up Incubators self-reliant
• Investment / Funding opportunities from international Organisation.

Recommendations will be compiled and shared with all the relevant bodies (in the government), universities and higher educational institutions, and with other concerned stakeholders.

5 teams have been selected for incubation under the Sahyadri Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Interaction with the Launchpads
An interactive session with the entrepreneurial aspirants of Sahyadri was organised so that they can benefit from the insights of the international delegates that had arrived at the college. Students with an incredible calibre and brilliant ideas got to pitch the same to these guests and five teams (from the sixteen that pitched) are to be incubated at the college.

This event was a learning experience for all the participants and volunteers alike as they got to interact with some of the best minds of the world. Everybody had something to take away from this.
