Mangaluru: Education is a tool for social transformation. Education should not only make people literate, but they should also be knowledgeable with some good values, said Nitte University (Deemed) Bioinformatics Associate Professor Dr Shyam Prasad Rao opined.
While inaugurating the state-level inter-college fest Bio Synergy 2023 organized by the Department of Biology, Mangalore University at the University Auditorium recently, he said that in today’s technology era, abundant information is available at the fingertips, but knowledge is missing. The role of teachers is important here, he said.
Program Coordinator Prof. Prashantha Naik, in his introductory speech, said that Bio-Synergy 2023 is a golden platform for graduate students to unleash their talent and creativity. Synergy is the coordination of different things, the skills of individuals to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of the individual effects, he said.
Department Chairperson Prof. Chandra M. He gave a brief introduction to about five postgraduate programs in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Food Science and Nutrition offered by the Department. Director of Student Welfare Directorate Prof. Parameshwara, presiding over the closing ceremony, said that outdoor learning helps the students develop intrinsic learning and emotional aspects.

Unique competitions like Genesis (Icebreaker), Bio-Blitz (Fund Hunt), Sci-Chic (Science Fashion), Flameless Feast (Cooking Without Fire), Brainstorming (Biological Quiz), Cine-Science (Videography), Innovation Station (Science Model), Impulse (Seminar Presentation), Chromatic Convergence (Rangoli) and Think Tank (Product Launch), Vistara (Poster Presentation) were held.
More than 250 students from various colleges participated. Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Mangalore bagged the overall championship and SDM College, Ujira, bagged the runner-up award.
