Mangaluru: Dr Ranjan Pai, President of MAHE Trust and Chairman of MEMG, has officially initiated the construction of the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre in Havange, Udupi District.

The event was attended by several esteemed individuals, including Pro-Chancellor Dr H.S. Ballal, Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen (Dr ) M.D. Venkatesh, Registrar Dr Giridhar Kini, Pro Vice Chancellors Dr Sharath K. Rao, Dr N.N. Sharma, and Dr Dilip Naik and Hari Narayan Sharma, CEO Manipal Foundation, C.G. Muthana, Chief Operating Officer of MAHE, Dr Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of Manipal Teaching Hospitals, Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Dr Unnikrishnan, Dean of KMC Mangalore, and Dr Naveen Salins, Head of the Department of Palliative Medicine, and Supportive Care, along with other administrative staff from MAHE, MAGE and KMC.

The Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre, an ambitious initiative, aims to provide top-notch and compassionate palliative care to ensure a high quality of life for all, regardless of their health condition. Our mission is to offer exceptional support, symptom management, dignity, and comfort to individuals and families facing incurable, chronic, severe, and life-limiting illnesses. We prioritize patient-centered care to boost independence, alleviate suffering, and enhance well-being. Our dedicated team will also focus on communication, education, and empowerment to assist individuals and their families in navigating challenging times.

What sets the Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre apart is that it will feature a 100-bed inpatient facility, making it the second largest of its kind in India. Notably, it will be the first facility in India affiliated with both a hospital and a university to offer hospice and respite services in one place. Furthermore, it will cater to both cancer and non-cancer conditions, serving adults and children with incurable illnesses.

Dr Ranjan Pai’s visionary leadership has set the stage for a remarkable healthcare facility that will bring comfort, care, and hope to those in need. The Manipal Hospice and Respite Centre promises to be a beacon of compassion and support, making a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals and their families.
