Mount Carmel Central School celebrates International Yoga Day

Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School celebrated International Yoga Day at the school auditorium on 21 June 2023 keeping in mind the theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” i.e Yoga for the welfare of all – one earth, one family, one future.  

The programme was hosted by the students of grades X A, B, C and D for the seniors. It began with a prayer service invoking God’s blessings. The Nritya Yoga art form was presented through the welcome dance followed by Master Abhiram welcoming the chief guest Venilla Manikanta, a certified yoga trainer and introduced her to the gathering.  Aakanksh and Deeksha briefed the audience with the significance of the day elaborating on the art of Yoga as an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. The students then presented the theme through dance depicting the influence of Yoga throughout the world. 

“Study when you must study, and play when you must play.” The chief guest Venilla Manikanta, in her speech, addressed the history and significance of Yoga. She highlighted various methods that can keep a human being healthy. She also motivated the students to be physically active by practising the asanas on a regular basis and in conclusion, wished the gathering a happy International Yoga Day. “You may not be able to control the whole world, but you may be able to control your inner world through yoga.” The Vice principal Sr Therese Teena in her message, focused on Yoga as a gateway to happiness and the secret to a healthy body and mind. She congratulated and appreciated the efforts of the students of grade X and their teachers who have guided them to put up a meaningful programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shreyank and the programme was compeered by Joanne and Vernon. After the formal programme, the chief guest demonstrated a few asanas to the students, highlighting the benefits of each of them.

The programme for the juniors was conducted by grade III A and B students. It commenced invoking the blessings of the Almighty. The students Tanya and Aryansh welcomed the chief guest, Neena Pai, a trained yoga instructor and a recipient of ‘Yoga Kala Prathibha’ award and a disciple of renowned Yoga guru Sri Gopalakrishna Delampady. The welcome dance by the students induced a sense of oneness among the audience. The significance of the day was well articulated, coupled with a befitting demonstration of yogasanas. The dances on the theme of “yoga” sent a happy stimulant to everyone in the audience. The students in the mime show depicted the importance of wellness by following disciplined habits in daily life. The highlight of the programme was the interview between the chief guest Neena Pai and the student Lavanya of grade III wherein the audience was briefed about yoga and health.  This interview gave an insight to all present into the heart of the theme of the day. Zac delivered the vote of thanks. The programme wound up on the note of yoga, health and wellness globally. 

The NCC cadets of the school too celebrated International Yoga Day by performing yoga asanas that promote good health and wellness.
