Mangaluru: To celebrate the 132nd birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, the SC/ST Cell of NITK Surathkal hosted a number of cultural and academic events today at the NITK campus. As a part of the event, a dedicated website for SC/ST Cell (NITK) was launched today, which will be a single gateway that provides all the information on numerous scholarships exclusively granted to SC/ST students. The chief guest for today’s function was Dr Kumar Naik G, Joint Commissioner (Enforcement), West Zone, Department of Commercial Tax, Mangalore, Prof. G C Mohan Kumar, Director In-charge NITK Surathkal, presided over the function. Dr Nagendrappa, Liaison Officer NITK, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Narendranath S, Teaching and non-teaching staff of NITK, and over 400 students participated in the programme. During the occasion, a number of NITK faculty members who have excelled in the fields of academia and R&D were honoured.

Dr Kumar Naik, the event’s Chief Guest, addressed the gathering and said ” Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s contributions to the Indian Constitution, such as the abolition of untouchability and the reservation system for the underprivileged, have had a profound impact on Indian society. He also fought for women’s rights and was a strong advocate for education as a means of empowerment. Ambedkar’s legacy inspires millions worldwide, and his teachings on social justice and equality remain relevant today. He is a true icon of Indian freedom” he said.
