The play will be staged by Adishakti Theatre Arts, Pondicherry which has been creating waves in contemporary performance theatre for over 4 decades. This play is one of the most acclaimed theatrical performances of Adishakti.

Adi Shakti is a renowned theatre company raised in Pondicherry by Veena Pani Chawla, the country’s greatest creative theatre thinker, theatre researcher and stage director. The plays of this troupe like Bali, Ganapati, Brihannala have surprised theater lovers as important theatre experiments in the country and abroad.

The foundation of Adishakti is a team of mature artistes who have been trained over the years under the leadership of Veenapani Chawla. Adishakti has attracted the attention of theatre thinkers from abroad in the way of acting, stage design, new way of feeding thoughts to the audience, innovative stage concept, new touch to popular plot, etc.

Even after Veenapani Chawla’s death, the Adishakti team has progressed further in the path shown by its guru. Bhumi is the latest drama of Adishakti.

Sara Joseph’s Malayalam based play has been adapted to the stage with new sensibilities by veteran director, actor Vinaya Kumar, who plays the main character and also scores the music.

“The interweaving of women and violence is something that haunts forever and the play has its pulse in this regard”, says director Vinaya Kumar. Aimed at the theatre lovers of the world, this play uses English language but has a mature stage language that can reach the audience of any language.

This is the first time in history that Adishakti is staging a play in Mangalore. The entry for this play is free.
