Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), hosted Milan 2023, a celebration of cultural diversity on campus, with great fervour on 9 Dec 2023. The inhabitants of the college campus were welcomed with a colourful artworks designed by the student contingent at the entrance and around the campus of the college.
The Management, faculty, staff and students of SJEC gathered at 9:15 a.m. for a grand inauguration where the Milan 2023 Logo was revealed, followed by welcome address by Dr. Rio D’Souza, Principal and later the students began the excitement with the Flash Mob, which was followed by Kodagu Valaga and fun games for staff and students. The Chende performance further grabbed the attention of the crowd to the venue with students dancing to the beats of the Chende expressing their interest to the celebration around.
Dr Rio Dsouza explained the real essence of the cultural confluence, Milan 2023, the significance of diversity, love and compassion being the common thread that binds different communities together, the human qualities which brings us together so that diversity becomes the element to combine unique strength of individuals to bring everyone together on a single platform and celebrate this wonderful occasion.
The colourful dresses celebrating the ethnic diversity of the SJEC campus, music and dances all added up to the wonderful and energetic performances of the students. The talent of SJEC students was on display and the event symbolized the rich cultural heritage and traditions.
This was followed by a variety of events that included Pattabhishek, Ethnopath, Rangatarang, Chitralekh, Kalakrithi, Reel-in-Milan, Dawat-E-Milan and Satrang scheduled for the entire day and Shobhayaatra, Pili Gobbu, Cultural Gala, Chende Melam and DJ in the evening.
Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, Rev. Fr Kenneth Ryner Crasta, Assistant Director, Dr Puroshothama Chippar, Vice Principal and Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager graced the occasion. The event was coordinated by Dr Sushanth H Gowda, faculty convenor along with the rest of the members of the organizing team. Shawn and Shwetha kunte compered the inaugural program, further Aveen Vas and Sweedal Pinto conducted the fun games after the inaugural function giving a wonderful start to the day.
