Trishul of SPC selected for IND-SL Annual Canoe Sprints 2024

Puttur: Trishul, a student of St Philomena College, has been chosen to represent India at the Indo-Sri Lanka Annual Canoe Sprints 2024, in the Adams Bridge Paddle Challenge.

This event, held on April 10 and 11, 2024,is significant in the realm of canoeing and kayaking sports, with the National Association of Canoeing and Kayaking of Sri Lanka (NACKSL) in partnership with the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA), organizing the first-ever Adams Bridge Paddle Challenge.

The competition is a thrilling match between Indian and Sri Lankan athletes.

Participants undertake a challenging journey, paddling from Thalaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in India, navigating the waters of the Adams Bridge.

This pioneering event aims not only to foster a spirit of friendly competition but also to facilitate cultural exchange and encourage sports tourism in the region.

Trishul, a third-year BA student at St Philomena College in Puttur is a skilled swimmer associated with the Puttur Aquatic Club, has been rigorously training under the expert guidance of coaches Partha Varanashi, Niroop GR, and Dixit R.

Dakshina Kannada swimmers are venturing into such an international platform for the first time, marking a momentous occasion for the local sports community.

The son of Shiv Gowda and Nalini, hailing from Parladka Golikatte, Trishul has dedicated countless hours to perfecting his skills at the Balavana swimming pool.

The college community, including the correspondent Rev. Lawrence Mascarenhas, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Campus Director Rev. Stany Pinto, and Director of Physical Education, Dr Elias Pinto, along with staff and students, have collectively extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Trishul for this impressive endeavour.
