“Maths gives us hope that every problem has a solution”
Mangaluru: The Innovation Club and Department of Botany of University College Mangaluru, on Thursday organised a Quiz and Maths Puzzle competition to mark the birth anniversary of great mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan.
The program started with a divine prayer by Pragathi, followed by the welcome note by Devika, moderated by Vedashini and Chethan and ended with a vote of thanks by Lekhan. The quiz and puzzles event was managed by Swathi Nayak, Khushi Shetty, Bhagya Lakshmi, Gurunath, Afrah, Uttham and Bhagyashree.
Later students were divided into three groups and asked to prepare innovative fun puzzles. Each group participated enthusiastically and made it a fun-filled intellectual event. The program convener Dr Siddaraju M N explained the purpose of conducting such events. It is to encourage the students to enjoy the learning and also to identify and give a platform to showcase their hidden talents.
It is the first activity-based program for NEP 2020 batch students wherein, students prepared quiz questions and puzzles and conducted them independently. On this occasion Botany Department HoD Dr Shobha opined that mathematics is everywhere; the number of plants per unit area, crop yield, number of fruits per tree, number of stamens, pistil, plant vegetation, forest per cent in-country etc. everything is measured in numbers.
