Mangaluru: The inaugural ceremony of Incident 2023 was held on March 16 at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal campus, the cultural fest Incident 2023 started on March 16, and will be held till March 18. Incident 2023 is expected to witness over 45,0000 footfall for the 4-day cultural fest.

Actor & Director Prakash Belawadi, National awardee for best film in the English language in 2003, who was conferred “Pratibha Bhushan” by the Govt of Karnataka in 2003 for his contribution to culture, recipient of Helpmann Award, Australia (2019) for Best Actor, Male in the play ‘Counting and Cracking’, was the Chief Guest for the Incident 2023 inaugural ceremony. Padma Shree Awardee & Environmentalist, Smt. Tulasi Gowda, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Chairman, Shanth Thimaiah, was the event’s Guest of honour.

Director (In-charge), Prof. G.C.Mohan Kumar, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Narendranath. S, Registrar, K Ravindranath, teaching & non-teaching staff & students took part in the inaugural ceremony Incident 2023.

“Weapon Expo At NITK” (As a part of Incident 2023)

As part of Incident 2023, the 2 KAR COY, NCC, NITK Surathkal hosted a “Weapon Expo” today at NITK in collaboration with the 56 ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) unit. The exhibition intended to raise knowledge of the many types of armaments used in the army, as well as to inspire young people to pursue careers in the defence/armed forces. Students were taught about line display ammunition, and how to handle hand grenades and rocket launchers in an actual combat scenario. Students were also given the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience with the weaponry used in the armed forces. The Weapon Exhibition attracted around 2000 participants.

About Incident 2023

‘Incident 2023’ is the annual cultural fest of NITK, which is one of the biggest cultural fests in India. Having witnessed conception in the year 1980, Incident has grown leaps and bounds to become the second largest solely student-organized fest in all of South India. The magnificent festival spans 4 days and the numerous events and competitions across various art forms make it a sight to behold during the month of march. Students from every corner of the nation arrive here to showcase their talents on one of the biggest platforms in front of reputed judges. Over its rich 41-year-old history, Team Incident takes pride in having hosted some of the most popular artists worldwide at the much-awaited Pro Shows.

About ‘Incident 2023’

Incident 2023 will be held from March  16 to 19, the team Incident 2023 has planned to take the fest to the next level this time around. Equipped with a refreshing and energetic medieval theme, ‘A Tale of Bards & Knights’, aims to transform the NITK Campus into a medieval marvel during the fest.

The Inauguration function will be followed by a standup comedy show by Gurleen Pannu, a well-known artist in the world of comedy.

On March 17, some of the major events like the Inci-Talks will feature inspirational and influential speakers. The speakers for this edition will be Shankar Bidari, former Commissioner of Police Bengaluru, and Nivedan Nempe, founder of ArecaNut.

Another flagship event of ‘Incident 2023’ is the much-awaited fashion contest, Haute Couture which will be adjudicated by the very gorgeous Miss Universe 2022, Divita Rai.

The Pro-Shows, Day 1 will be the Fusion Night of Incident 2023 featuring bands of international repute. The bands performing on this day are the Mysore-based fusion band, Mysore Xpress and the sensational Kerala-based rock band Masala Coffee. Day 2 will be the DJ Night of Incident with Sunburn Campus. Day 3, I.e., March 19, Incident 2023 will be provided with the fitting finale by the queen of Bollywood Music, the ravishing Sunidhi Chauhan.

About the events

‘Incident 2023’ is truly a wonderful opportunity for students all over the country to take part in a multitude of competitions across various domains such as Music, Dance, Literature, Sports, Fashion, Business, Gaming and Drama and showcase their talents in front of highly-reputed judges. Incident 2023 has a total of 50+ events across the domains.

Expected footfall and outreach

‘Incident 2023’ has been publicized far and wide and we have even reached out to colleges in places as far as Bengaluru, Chennai and Goa. In total, Team Incident 2023 has reached out to more than 200 colleges and the participation this time around promises to be in massive numbers.

Overall, Team Incident 2023 is expecting a footfall of 45,000+ over the course of these 3 magical days at the coast of the Arabian Sea.
