Mangaluru: The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya university organised an awareness programme on account of World Rabies Day celebrated on September 28th.

More than 100 staff and students of the college attended the programme.

Dr Vina Vaswani, Director of the Centre for Ethics addressed the gathering present and escorted the chief guests to the dais.

The chief guests comprised; Dr M.S Moosabba (Dean YMC), Dr Abhay Nirgude (Vice Dean YMC), Dr Kishor Kumar ( HOD Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology YMC), Dr Jayani Weeratna (Forensic Odontologist, Sri Lanka), Dr Venkatkrishna Shenoy  (Assistant  Professor, Dept of Forensic Medicine and toxicology, YMC)

Dr M.S. Moosabba and Dr Abhay Nirgude addressed the gathering and enlightened the attendees about the features of the disease, transmission, prognosis and morbidity of Rabies with accounts from their own personal experiences.

Dr Kishor Kumar highlighted the challenges faced in society to improve the environmental relationship between dogs and humans and he spoke about the Medico-legal aspects of dog bites including various sections from the Indian Penal Code.

Dr Afsal, an intern, presented a slideshow which highlighted the facts of rabies and also the prophylaxis involved in a case of Rabies.

Dr Venkatkrishna Shenoy expressed his gratitude to the gathering with a vote of thanks, marking the end of the programme.

This year marks the 16th World Rabies day celebration and the 1st celebration of the same in Yenepoya Medical College. All the staff of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology was instrumental in organising the first-of-its-kind Rabies Awareness Programme.
