ICYM Shirva deanery organised ‘Yuva Samagam’ at Mudarangadi

Udupi: ICYM Shirva deanery organised ‘Yuva Samagam’, a one-day programme for the ICYM members of Shirva deanery at the St. Francis Xavier Church Auditorium, Mudarangadi on 9 September 2018.

The programme began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration for the youth. After the mass the programme continued with inaugural ceremony, panel session on 9 topics. In the afternoon session after the lunch games and cultural programme was held and the programme concluded with the valedictory function. Around 160 youth from 10 parishes of the Shirva deanery actively participated in the Yuva Samagam.

The programme was inaugurated by Fr. Dennis D’Sa, the dean of the Shirva deanery and the parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva by lighting the lamp. Fr. Walter Mendonca SVD; Fr. Kiran Nazareth, Director of ICYM Shirva Deanery; Fr. Francis Lewis, parish priest St. Francis Xavier Church, Mudarangadi, Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal Milagres Degree College, Kallianpur, Dion Dsouza, President ICYM Udupi Diocese, Shoba Fernandes, Animator ICYM Mudarangadi unit; Jackson Cabral, President ICYM deanery; Vicky Mendonca, ICYM Secretary Shirva deanery; Josvita DSouza, President ICYM Mudarangadi unit and Marwin Dsouza ICYM Mudarangadi unit were present for the inaugural ceremony.

Jackson Cabral welcomed the gathering. Fr. Dennis D’Sa addressed the youth saying “Youth should follow three things in life – Awareness, Analysis and Action”. Vicky Mendonca proposed the vote of thanks. Junia Barboza conducted the proceedings.

After the inaugural programme, Lisa Sara Pinto introduced Dr. Vincent Alva, the moderator for the panel session.
Then there was the panel discussion. Ten youth panelists from different units spoke over 9 different topics. The topics discussed were:
1. Change self with changing time – Being Prudent
2. India: My nation – My home
3. Present Education – Utilitarian or Unemployable
4. Youth – Capable of defending their stand or deciding their future
5. Judiciary – A vanishing hope?
6. Law Education – Ample opportunity in political field
7. Youth and Society – Belonging / Alienating
8. Effect of Automation on Youth
9. Catholic Youth in Multi-Religious Context
The panel session was concluded by Dr. Vincent Alva by saying “By coming out of our comfort zone the youth could bring a revolution”. Fr. Edwin Dsouza, Diocesan ICYM Director also attended the panel session and encouraged the young panelists.

Later there was a lunch break and in the afternoon session games were conducted for the youth by Fr. Kiran Nazareth.

After the games Kishore Alva, Joint-President of Adani Group of Companies addressed the youth by sharing his life experience as a youth and also encouraged the youth for their active participation.

Later there was a cultural programme. 7 units presented different cultural programmes.

During the valedictory programme, Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Principal Don Bosco Institutions, Shirva was the chief guest. The other dignitaries on the dais were Fr. Kiran Nazareth, Fr. Francis Lewis, Br. Don Prem Lobo, Shoba Fernandes, Jackson Cabral, Vicky Mendonca, Josvita Dsouza and Marwin Dsouza. Jeenal Saldanha welcomed the gathering. Fr. Mahesh addressed the youth and congratulated the youth for the success of Yuva Samgam. He gave away the prizes to the winners. Fr. Kiran Nazareth proposed the vote of thanks and thanked everyone for their efforts in making the programme a great success. He also congratulated the YCS unit of Mudarangadi unit for their selfless work. The programme concluded with the ICYM anthem.
