Journo’s service alleviates pain, evils in society: ZP CEO - 2 min read

Udupi : The role of a journalist is to make Kannada language and literature rich and meaningful. Moreover, the Journalists’ service is laudable for alleviating the pain and evils of society, said Prasanha H., IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat.

 He was speaking in his inaugural address during the Journalists’ Day celebrations held at Manipal Inn Hotel near here on Friday, July 1, 2022 which was organized by Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association and Canon.

They are working to alert the elected people’s representatives and officials from the press. But journalists should be self-reviewing how well the effort is taking place today to impose and dictate their opinions, he suggested,

Even though, while there is plenty of information and news available on mobile and social websites, the importance of newspapers has not diminished. Udupi G.P.’s emphasis on the importance of the magazine is that people are more interested in reading newspapers than in books in libraries running in Gram Panchayats.

Rajesh Shetty, President of the District Working Journalists Association, presided over the programme.

On this occasion, Sudhakar Shenoy of Mangalore Mahaveer Agency, Kiran Manjanbailu, Member of State Committee of Karnataka State Working Journalists Association, Arun Kumar Shiruru, Member of Indian Federation of Working Journalists, Delhi, and District I&B Officer Manjunath were present.

Nazir Polya, General Secretary of the District Journalists’ Association, welcomed and the Treasurer, Umesh Marpalli, gave the vote of thanks. Public TV’s Udupi District Cameraman Chetan Matpadi compered the programme.

Senior journalist S. Janardhana Maravante was honoured. Vijay Acharya, executive committee member of the District Journalists’ Association, read the letter of honour. Later, senior press photographer Astro Mohan and journalist Balakrishna Bhimaguli were felicitated.

On the same occasion, a workshop was conducted on the role of modern cameras in photojournalism by several award winner Astro Mohan, Photo Journalist of Udayavani.

Dhanush, son of Harish Katpadi, reporter of Vijaya Karnataka newspaper, who scored more than 80% marks in PUC examination, Shivani A Kailaje, daughter of our TV Karkala reporter Arun Bhatt, who scored more than 80% marks in SSLC examination, was given Pratibha Purashkar award.
