‘Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition’ finals on November 6

Mangaluru: The finals of Konkani poetry reciting competition organized by Kavita Trust, will be held on Sunday, November 6 in Mangaluru. Altogether 13 children and 25 youth will compete in their respective categories for the top honours.

Kavita Trust organizes All India Konkani poetry reciting competition for youth in the age category of 15 to 30 years for the past 6 years. The competition is being held in the name of Rohan and Lavita Monteiro and its preliminary rounds were being held in Mangaluru, Panaji, Margao, Udupi and Bantwal. For children below the age of 15 years, Kavita Trust organizes Karnataka level poetry reciting competition. This competition is being sponsored by Nelson and Lavina Rodricks in memory of ‘Konkani Sahity Kularatn’ late C.F.D’Costa.

The finals will start from 9:30 am at World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar, Mangaluru. Out of the 25 finalists in the youth category 12 are from Goa, 2 from Bhatkal, 1 from Kasargod and the rest are from Mangaluru, Udupi and Puttur. The 13 finalists in the children’s category belong to Mangaluru, Udupi and Bantwal regions.

Narendra Pai, Kannada writer and critic, will preside the prize distribution function at 3 pm. Rohan Monteiro, Lavita Monteiro and Basti Vaman Shenoy will be the guests of honour during the occasion.
