Mangaluru: Remona Evette Pereira has been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar award for her outstanding contributions in the field of art and culture. On Monday January 24, a virtual interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held at the Zilla Panchayat too.
Hailing from Falnir in the City, she is in her first year of pre-university college at Nanthoor Padua PU College. She is the younger sister of Ronaldo Rockson and the daughter of Gladis Celine and the late Everest Pereira.
Remona has been trained under Manoj Karipalla and Sandhya K. in semi-classical dance for the past eight years. Pramod Kodikal Preethesh Kumar and Nicky Pinto have also been teaching her western and contemporary dance.
Remona’s desire to learn various dance forms, such as Kuchipudi, Kathak, Semi-Classical, Folk, Yakshagana, Western, and contemporary dance, provided her with more opportunities to establish and explore her role as a dance ambassador.
She has won hundreds of prizes as a result of her participation in numerous competitions. She has also performed in a countless number of stage shows. In the year 2019, she did her Bharatanatyam Rangapravesha.
The award included a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a certificate.
