Udupi: R L Dias, senior retired army personnel and the president of the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha died at a private hospital after a brief illness on the night of Wednesday, March 24. He was 88.
Dias has left behind his wife, four daughters, a son, and scores of admirers. On Sunday, March 28 at 3.30 p.m., his funeral will be held at Manipal Christ Church.
For the past two decades, Dias has served as the office-bearer and president of the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha. He took the initiative to contact concerned officials from the southern and southwest railways, including the Udupi division and was able to resolve a variety of issues.
Dias was also concerned about the state of society. People recall his contributions to the upkeep of Parkala national highway, the implementation of NARM buses in Udupi, and the construction of the Indrali railway overbridge.
