Mangaluru: 31 January 2024 was A “Golden Day” for the first batch of BCom students of the year 1974 of St Agnes College. The day began with a joyful meeting of 19 old students with 3 of their professors, hosted at the College premises by the present Principal, Sr Dr Venissa A.C. who graciously presided over the function.

Diana D’Souza welcomed the gathering; the Jubilee lamp was lit, and this was followed by a meaningful Prayer Service. The Chief Guest along with the professors and a few students cut the Jubilee cake.

The highlight of the event was a “Scholarship Founded by the BCom Batch 1974”. A cheque for Rs.1,00,000/- was handed over by Silvia Concessao to the Principal, Sr Dr Venissa, which as she explained would be invested in a bank fixed deposit and every year a deserving needy student would receive the interest accrued at the annual College Day function.

Words of Gratitude were expressed by Rosemary Pais to the Professors – Sr Dr Agatha Mary A.C., Sr Dr M. Olivia A.C. and Frank Lewis. The Chief Guest, Sr Dr Venissa, in her message, expressed her joy and gratitude to the batch mates who came from far and near and celebrated their togetherness.

Sr Dr Venissa was thrilled that all of them are the ambassadors of the Agnesian family and warmly welcomed for the programme ‘Aashiyana’ to be hosted jointly by the college and Alumni, a venture that will cater to the needy students of the College by providing a house.

Sr Dr Venissa thanked the donors for their kind thought and generous gesture of reaching out to one deserving student every year. Amini founded another Scholarship in the name of the lecturer of the first batch Varky to be distributed annually to a B.Com. student.

The morning ended on a happy note with the professors and students interacting with each other and “catching up” after 50 years followed by a fellowship meal with games and fun recalling fond memories of those happy days. The day ended with the College Anthem and nostalgic memories to be cherished in the days and years to come. Long Live St Agnes College!
