Mangaluru: The much-awaited Annual sports day at St Mary’s P.U College, Falnir, Mangalore unfolded with tremendous enthusiasm and vigour, marking a day filled with spirited competitions, cheers and exceptional sportsmanship on 29 Nov 2023.

The day commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest featuring the magnificent school band followed by the March Past from the students of I and II puc wearing colourful uniforms.

The chief guest of the occasion Manohar Prasad (PSI) along with Sr Sahaya Mary, the college principal, Sr Maria Kripa – St Mary’s Joint Secretary, other Heads of the Institution, Suresh Nandottu (Lecture in Political Science) Physical Director of Carmel P.U College, Modankap and Vanitha -Physical Director of St Mary’s High School received the salute of honour from the Marching Teams.

The college flag was hoisted to mark the occasion and the balloons were released into the air by the Chief Guest to mark the beginning of the event.

Student Rajeshwari and group invoked the blessings of the Almighty and Sr Sahaya Mary, the college principal welcomed and introduced the Chief Guest of the event. To ignite the passion of sporting spirits, the ceremonial torch was lit and carried by Rifa K.S -the sports secretary followed by the student representatives and then handed over to the Chief Guest after which the Annual Sports Meet was declared.

The Sports Secretary administered an oath pledging to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship within them. Sr Maria Kripa – Joint Secretary of St Mary’s P.U College bestowed her blessings upon the participants.

During the program, passed-out students were honoured with scholarships and merit certificates for their excellence in academics and other co-curricular activities.

The Cabinet Members of the academic year were awarded on the occasion. The felicitation program was led by Thanujakshi (Lecturer in Economics) and Supriya (Lecturer in Physics).

The chief guest next addressed the gathering. He articulated that one needs to aim high to achieve something in life. He further said that as he was a state-level athlete, he was fortunate to join the Indian Army. It is because of high spirits in sports he has achieved his dream. He urged the students not to involve themselves in online gaming as it steals their own time and stressed the fact that student life is the only life where you have an abundance of opportunities and advised them to make use of those opportunities.

The formal program ended at 11 a.m. and the individual track event took place at 12:15 p.m. The track event witnessed breathtaking displays of speed, patience and strength of the participants pushing their limits in events such as relay, 100 M race, 200 M race, 200 M relay, and Long jumps.

The individual championship in the I PU category was bagged by Anisha Fatima of I Commerce whereas in the overall championship, the first place was bagged by II Commerce. The March Past competition was won by the students of I Commerce Group A and the runners-up were the students of II Commerce.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the sports day was unwavering support and encouragement from fellow students and faculty members.

The program was compered by Smitha Karat (Lecturer in Biology) and Mamatha (Lecturer in English) and a vote of thanks was proposed by Shyamala Raj (Lecturer in Mathematics).
