Mangaluru: ‘With special emphasis being laid on the development of sports activities and sports infrastructure in the City, two new stadiums will be constructed for Kabaddi and Wrestling practices on the land reserved for sports adjacent to the Kendra Maidan,” said Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath.

He was speaking to mediapersons after holding a meeting with the City Corporation Officials in this regard. “Kabaddi and Wrestling practice stadiums will be built on the foundation land that was earlier put up for makeshift shops at the sports ground adjacent to the Kendra Maidan. A plan has been drawn up to construct these two stadiums in consultation with Smart City officials in order to use the space reserved for sports for sports activities,” he said.

“The decision in this regard was taken at a special meeting with Smart City Officer Arun Prabha, Former Mayor Diwakar, Wrestling Association Honorary President Suresh Chandra Shetty, Amateur Kabaddi Association President Giridhar Shetty, Leaders Ratan Shetty, Purushottam Poojary and others. Earlier, the foundation stone for the construction of temporary shops at the same site was laid by the Smart City itself. But due to legal complications, the work was stalled. It has now been approved to set up a small Kabaddi and Wrestling stadium in the area with a view to removing the bottlenecks and to dedicate the land to sports activities and to make good use of the foundational work done in the past,” he said.

“The foundation stone will be laid soon and the Smart City grant will be used for sports. In addition to this, an international Kabaddi stadium will be constructed at Urwa,” Kamath said.

The Amateur Kabaddi Association has pointed out that a small stadium is needed for daily practice. After thinking about it, a new stadium has now been planned, said Kamath.

Smart City Officials Arun Prabha, Former Mayor Diwakar, Wrestling Association Honorary President Dilraj Alva, Wrestling Association President Sureshchandra Shetty, Amateur Kabaddi Association President Giridhar Shetty, prominent Leaders Ratan Shetty, Purushottam Poojary, Monappa Kulai, MCC Officer Akshat, Ravindra, MCC Surveyor Mahalinga, Uday Shetty and others were present at the meeting.
