Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath has started a war room in his office with a view to collecting garbage from house to house and resolving heaps of garbage lying on roadsides within the limits of Mangaluru City South Assembly Constituency.

“Action will be taken to clear the garbage if the public calls the MLA’s war room phone number if there are heaps of garbage at their house, flat or on the roadside,” stated MLA in press release.

As the garbage workers have been on strike for the past several days, MLA Kamath has tried to convince them through talks with a view to fulfil their demands. Despite several attempts, there has been no positive response from them. The workers said they would return to work only after the strike was called off in the State as workers across the State were protesting. Therefore, a situation has been created in Mangaluru City South Assembly Constituency to initially hire garbage transport vehicle drivers on a temporary basis and start work. It was difficult to assemble enough motorists immediately. However, work has been done to assemble approximately 75 to 80 drivers.

Kamath states that an additional 30 to 40 drivers are required and motorists willing to work should contact his office.

The drivers have been appointed on the basis of wards and the mobile numbers of the officers and supervisors have also been given in this regard.

“The workers who are now attached to the work are not familiar with the wards as they are wage labourers. Therefore, in some areas, garbage collection has become difficult. Efforts are being made to remove all that,” he stated.

The number of wards, the number of supervisors, drivers and the mobile numbers of the local authorities have been given. If the problem of garbage disposal arises, if our war room is approached, it will be rectified. Expressing regret over the problems faced by the people, he states the problem of waste disposal will be resolved in the next 3 to 4 days.

On this issue, many people were told about the need for drivers and labourers for alternative arrangements. The problem could have been resolved quickly if we had forgotten politics and cooperated in the interest of the people of the city. But let the opposition parties, which are opposed to the administration, stop criticising and do an honest service of providing motorists.
So if there are any problems, contact the war room. I express regret for the inconvenience caused to the people,” Kamath added in a press release.
