Mangaluru: Some Church based NGOs in Mangalore have enrolled over 200 women entrepreneurs to start new businesses to make up for their losses in the pandemic.
The program, supported by the Functional Vocational Training and Research Society (FVTRS), a Church-based Organization from Bangalore was officially launched at Spandana Trust, Jeppu in collaboration with some Catholic nuns on 29 March.
Some 208 members of the Women’s Self Help Groups from Mangalore, Mulki, Vamanjoor and Kavoor got benefited from the program and have received training and seed money of Rs.12,000 each from FVTRS. City Bank has availed the funds from their Corporate Social Responsibility for supporting 1000 women from Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore.
NGOs like Spandana, Sahodaya, Jeevandhara, and Dharma Jyoti are coordinating the program and monitoring the implementation of the business plans. The NGOs are managed by Charity Sisters, Jeppu, Bethany Sisters, Bendorewell and Sisters of the Queen of Apostles, Vamanjoor.
Clara D’Cunha, the coordinator of the FVTRS project in Mangalore said the women were trained in various trades and business planning prior to assisting them with the seed money. Four representatives among the women have shared their experience in entrepreneurship and narrated their plans for future.
Felix D’souza, Director of FVTRS said training youth and women from economically backward communities are the primary activities of the Institute which is implemented all over the country. “We have already trained thousands of people in vocational skills and initiated them to entrepreneurship already”, he said during the launching ceremony.
