Working Journalists’ Union mark Press Day, remembers Rev Mogling

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Working Journalists’ Union, Dakshina Kannada District Committee organised a Press Day as well as a programme in memory of Rev. Hermann Mogling at Karnataka Theological College, Balmatta in the City on Friday July 1.

Former MLA J. R. Lobo garlanded the statue of Rev. Hermann Mogling, Founder ediotor of Mangalore Samachara, the first Kannada newspaper.

Speaking on the occasion, Lobo said that it is important to remember Hermann Mogling, the founder of the first Kannada newspaper. Mogling’s contribution to the world of newspapers, Kannada literature and Dasa Sahitya has been immense. We need to take up a programme to transfer this to the next generation,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, Karnataka Theological College Principal Dr. H. M. Watson, said that the statue of Hermann Mogling should be installed in various parts of Karnataka on the likes Dictionary Writer Kittel.

Karnataka Working Journalists’ Union Dakshina Kannada District Committee President Harish Bantwal welcomed the gathering on the occasion of Press Day.

Karnataka Working Journalists’ Union Vice President Lakshman Kunder, Office-bearers Canute Jeevan Pinto, Giridhar Shetty, Senior Journalist Mohan Bolangadi, Richie Lasrado, Hamid, Ishwar Varanasi, Ramesh Neerabidire, Sullia Taluk Committee President J. K. Rai, Shivaprasad Aletti, Shivaram Kajemoole, Sridhar Kajegadde, Ramesh Neerabidire, Jayashree Koyingodi, Keerthi Hoddetty and others were present.
