Mangaluru: ‘You Matter Counselling and Training Centre’ was inaugurated by Additional commissioner of Income Tax P Suresh Rao at New Milagres Mansion Building, Hampankatta on Sunday March 6.
– Rev.Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, Parish priest of Milagres Church along with Rev.Fr Walter D’Mello, Judicial Vicar of Mangalore diocese blessed the centre.
– President of Indian Psychiatric Society, Karnataka chapter, Dr Kiran Kumar, and Dr U V Shenoy were also a part of the inaugural event.
– Speaking on the occasion, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Suresh Rao said, “Today the level of stress in society has increased when compared to earlier. Stress is mainly because of the gap between our expectations and our capacity to handle the situation. The more the gap, the more will be the more stress. Counselling will improve our mental and physical health which in turn increases our wealth.”
– Rev.Fr Walter D’Mello, Judicial Vicar of Mangalore Diocese said, “Today everyone from children to elderly needs counselling and it’s for the personal development. Today’s youth are involved in substance abuse like alcohol, drugs and counselling is the way to come out of it.”
– Dr Kiran Kumar, President of Indian Psychiatric Society, Karnataka Chapter said that “Counselling is a skill and everyone cannot counsel. Over expectation is the main cause of stress. It is necessary to limit our expectations to stay away from stress. Rural areas have less stress when compared to urban areas”
– Founder Trustee of ‘You Matter Charitable Trust’, Mrs Lugina Miranda, stated ‘The Trust aims to provide counselling and training to all members of the community. In keeping with the spirit of social service, the Trust offers free counselling and training services to individuals from deprived sections of society. The vision is to reach out to more and more people, especially those from Government schools and colleges and remote areas, to make people aware of what is counselling and the benefits of counselling. The Trust also aims to conduct some programmes on Parenting Training.”
– Trustee, You Matter Charitable Trust, Precilla D’Silva welcomed the gathering, Steevan D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks, Chitraleka Gupta compered the event, and Dr Meena Lobo introduced the chief guest. The 10th batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance & Counselling (PGDGC), St Agnes College volunteered for the You Matter Counselling and Training Centre inauguration event.
