Diocesan Mega Event DYC’15 of ICYM celebrated

Moodbidri: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Mangalore Diocese in collaboration with ICYM Moodbidri Deanery and Shirthady Unit organized the Diocesan Youth Convention (DYC) 2015 at Shirthady parish from Oct 1 to Oct 4, 2015. The mega event was kick started with a grand procession by Most Rev Fr Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shivamogga Diocese.

While Msngr. Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese presided over the programme, Abayachandra Jain, Minister for Youth and Sports, Govt. of Karnataka was Chief Guest.

The inauguration of DYC-2015 took place in an innovative way by putting different types of fishes into one bowl by all dignitaries, as a symbol of bringing youth from different walks of life under one roof.

Rohan Madanthyar was honoured for creating the Best Logo of DYC 2015 while Robin Cutinho was awarded for the theme song. Clerita and group were honored by Abhayachandra Jain for the anthem.

Addressing the gathering, Abhayachandra Jain said, “The fact is Christian missionaries and religious people have done a lot for the society, like providing education and medical facilities without expecting anything. Hats off to them”. He also added that he has been given the responsibility to be the minster for youth. “I will promise to do my best for the betterment of youth”, he said.

Msgnr. Denis Moras Prabhu in his presidential address said, “Kindness has no price so the youth of ICYM should build the society with their kindness without expecting anything from the society”.

Fr. Austin Peter Peris, Vicar, Moodbidri Deanary, Fr.Basil Vas, Director ICYM Moodbidri Deanary, Fr. Ronald Dsouza YCS and ICYM Director Mangalore Diocese, Alwyn Dsouza, ICYM President Mangalore diocese, P.K.Thomas, Member of Municipality Moodbidri and other dignitaries’ were present on the dais.

The participating the youth were enlightened by renowned resource persons on the following days who spoke on various topics like the Yettinahole Project, Youth with media, culture and nature, Youth involvement in our society and Youth role in our community and Political fields.

There was a special session on snakes by Kiran Nirkan. Through this session, the youth were given information on saving snakes and were given inputs on various kinds of snakes.

The conference concluded on Oct 4 where all the youth who lent their support in the success of DYC were honoured.
