Mangaluru: The Rotary Club of Mangalore felicitated four luminaries from the field of education as part of the Teacher’s Day celebration on Monday 06.09.21 at Hotel Moti Mahal. The month of September has been dedicated by Rotary International as ‘Basic Education and Literacy month’.
The honorees were Dr Devaraj K, Fmr Director, SDM PG Center for Management Studies, Grace Noronha, Principal, Yenepoya School, Swaroop Devaiah, Director, Priyadarshini Montessori, and Dr D Shripathi Rao, Fmr Prof. & HoD, Dept. of Chemistry, St Aloysius College.
The President of the Rotary Club of Mangalore Rtn. Sudhir Jalan welcomed the gathering. The invocation was delivered by Rtn. Sudhir Nayak. The felicitation was carried out by Past Rotary Presidents Dr RL Kamath, Isaac Vas, Yathish Baikampady and Venkatesh Pai. Club Secretary Dr Arjun Nayak, Community Service Director Dr Siddarth Shetty, Youth services director, Rtn Vinod D’Souza and Vice president Rtn RK Bhat introduced the honourees. Club Sergeant Rtn. Venugopal Puthran coordinated the felicitation ceremony.
Dr Devaraj K delivered a response on behalf of the honorees and spoke of the role of teachers in shaping the youth and contributing to nation-building. He appreciated Rotary’s effort to highlight this. He appreciated teachers of kindergarten and primary school and said that they have a much tougher job since they deal with unformed minds. Treasurer Rtn Naveen Narayan delivered the vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with the national anthem.
