Mysuru: Following copious rains in the last few days, many water bodies have got a new lease of life. Tavarekatte Lake or Tavarekere at the foothill of Chamundi has sprung back to life attracting birds of different species. Courtesy the rain water that has resulted in brimming of the lake.

It is after a gap of nearly a decade that the lake has reached its maximum level. Ducks, egrets and other small birds have found a new place to roost here.

Tavarekatte is the second major attraction for those visiting Chamundi Hills. Recent rain has created a number of rivulets with water flowing from hill to Tavarekatte.

Whenever sufficient rainfall is received, the lake by name Hirikere atop Chamundi Hills will be full followed by Devikere, Tavarekatte also atop the Hill, finally being the Karanji Lake.

Since many years Tavarekatte has not see so much of water. Now Tavarekatte is looking like a mini bird sanctuary with winged attractions. Two islands in the lake with trees look like aviary.

Tavarekere was rejuvenated in 2018-2019 by JK Tyres under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme along with District Industries Centre. Total project cost was Rs. 16.5 lakh and the lake area is 12.5 acres. The implementing partner was MYRADA Kaveri Pradeshika Samsthe.
