Vijayapura: After the gap of over three years, the District Administration has decided to resume the monthly cultural event at the historic Anand Mahal premises for the people of the City.
The event which was started around four years ago with an objective of giving emphasis to cultural activities and a platform for the local artists, was stopped owing to Covid pandemic and financial constraints. The last event was held in March 2019, after which, no programme was held.
“There was a good demand from the people of the City to resume the event which is being held every month. The plans were also made to meet the demand and make necessary financial arrangements for the event. After coming up with the proper plan, we have decided to resume the event,” said, B. Nagaraj, the Deputy Director, Kannada and Culture Department.
The official said that it was one such place where local artistes were getting an opportunity to exhibit their talent. Most of them were coming voluntarily to perform.“
Since it was one of the best platforms for the local artistes, several artistes were also requesting the District Administration to resume the event,” he said.
He said that after confabulation, it was decided to hold the event on the evening of first Saturday of every month at Anand Mahal premises where a special stage has been constructed.
Nagaraj said that the first Saturday of the month was chosen to hold the event as often it was noticed that not many people were coming on holidays such as the second Saturday of Sunday as they either preferred to take rest or had some shopping to do.
“We thought that the first Saturday of the month had been selected as the Deputy Commissioner Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar found it ideal to hold the event,” Nagaraj said.
He said that besides calling for the local artistes, the department has decided to invite the State level artistes in coming days to make the event popular.
The official has appealed to the people to come in large numbers to enjoy the event which will last for around two hours. The event will start at around 6:30 pm, he said.
