New Delhi: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has dismissed a viral social media message claiming that its e-Office application and related member services would remain unavailable because of a scheduled system upgrade, calling the advisory “incorrect” and “misleading.” The retirement fund body clarified that it had neither issued nor authorised the message and urged members to rely only on its official communication channels for updates.

The clarification came after a widely circulated advisory claimed that the National Informatics Centre (NIC) was carrying out a system migration that would disrupt EPFO services, including those available through the UMANG app.

EPFO rejects viral advisory

In a post on X, EPFO said it had come to its notice that an advisory falsely attributed to the organisation was being widely shared on social media.

The organisation categorically stated that the advisory was not issued, authorised or endorsed by EPFO and asked subscribers not to rely on such unverified information.

Calls information ‘incorrect and misleading’

EPFO further clarified that the claims made in the viral message were false.

According to the organisation, it has not issued any advisory regarding the unavailability of services for EPF members or employers, contrary to what the viral message suggested. It advised users to verify information only through its official website and verified social media handles.

Confusion over scheduled maintenance

The clarification follows confusion arising from an internal circular regarding a scheduled e-Office system upgrade.

An official EPFO communication issued on August 3 stated that the internal e-Office application would undergo a scheduled upgrade on August 5 between 6 pm and 9.30 pm. The maintenance relates to internal e-Office modules and is not an advisory stating that all member-facing EPFO services will be unavailable throughout the day.

Members advised to rely on official updates

EPFO urged members and employers to ignore rumours circulating on social media and instead depend on information shared through its official platforms.

The organisation said that misleading posts can create unnecessary confusion among subscribers and advised users to verify any service-related announcements before forwarding them to others.

EPFO continues digital modernisation

The clarification comes as EPFO continues upgrading its digital infrastructure to improve service delivery.

In recent months, the retirement fund body has undertaken database consolidation, software migration and portal enhancements aimed at making online services faster, more secure and more reliable for members and employers. Some services may occasionally experience maintenance windows as part of these upgrades.

Conclusion

EPFO has made it clear that the viral message claiming its services are unavailable is false and unauthorised. While an internal e-Office system upgrade is scheduled for a limited period on August 5, the organisation has urged members to ignore misleading social media posts and rely only on official EPFO announcements for accurate information.
