New Delhi: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has restored its passbook portal after completing a scheduled maintenance and database migration exercise, allowing members to once again access their provident fund account statements online.

The portal had been temporarily taken offline from late June as part of a major software upgrade and database consolidation aimed at improving security, processing efficiency and the overall reliability of EPFO’s digital services.

Although the passbook service has resumed, EPFO has informed users that transactions for recently processed accounting years are currently available, while records for earlier accounting years are still being migrated.

According to a notice on the portal, the migration is an automated process and members do not need to take any action. The remaining historical transactions will be made available over the next few days.

Upgrade to improve services

The migration process, which began on June 26, is part of EPFO’s broader technology overhaul to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance system performance and improve user experience.

While member and employer services have been restored in phases, EPFO said claims and other service requests may continue to experience delays for up to two weeks as additional verification and validation checks are completed.

The restoration also comes ahead of the credit of the 8.25% annual interest for FY2025-26, which EPFO is expected to begin depositing into subscribers’ accounts from July 15.

UAN activation process changed

EPFO has also revised the process for activating the Universal Account Number (UAN). Members can no longer activate their UAN through the Unified Member Portal.

Instead, UAN activation must now be completed using the UMANG mobile application with Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT), a move aimed at strengthening account security.

How to check your PF balance

EPFO members can check their provident fund balance through multiple methods:

  • Log in to the EPFO Member Passbook portal using your UAN and password.
  • Use the UMANG mobile application.
  • Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number to receive account details.

Steps to access the EPFO e-passbook

  1. Visit the EPFO Member Passbook portal.
  2. Click on the E-passbook option.
  3. Enter your UAN, password and captcha.
  4. Sign in to view, download or print your EPF passbook.

With the passbook portal back online, EPFO members can once again access their PF account details ahead of the annual interest credit. While some older transaction records are still being migrated, the organisation expects the process to be completed automatically over the coming days.
