In Mulgund town of Karnataka’s Gadag district, 88-year-old Subhanabi Bayali and her 64-year-old daughter Fatima are struggling to survive, battling starvation and neglect. Despite their dire circumstances, they have been excluded from government welfare schemes for two years, leaving them without critical support.

Living in abject poverty, their only family member—a grandson who once supported them—has left. With no income or aid, they rely on sporadic help from neighbors to meet their basic needs.

Subhanabi and Fatima have been denied benefits from key government schemes, including the Annabhagya Yojana and Griha Lakshmi Yojana. Their gas cylinder subsidy has also been discontinued, further compounding their struggles.

“My son, who supported us, passed away a year and a half ago. Now we are left to fend for ourselves,” Fatima shared tearfully. “We don’t even have a ration card. Without food, gas, or financial aid, we are on the brink of starvation.”

Local resident Hajeesha highlighted the gravity of their situation. “They receive no help from the government. We’ve approached officials, including the District Magistrate and District Supply Officer, but nothing has changed. The mother and daughter are completely helpless,” he said.

The plight of Subhanabi and Fatima underscores the urgent need for government intervention to provide them with their rightful benefits and alleviate their suffering.
