Rockstar Games has kept the voice cast of Grand Theft Auto VI largely under wraps, but two actors have now publicly confirmed their involvement in the highly anticipated game. Red Dead Redemption 2 actor Jim Santangeli and veteran actor Stephen Root have both acknowledged that they worked on GTA 6, although neither has publicly provided a complete character credit.
The revelations have renewed interest in the game’s still-secret cast, particularly because Rockstar has not released a full list of performers for Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos and the many other characters introduced through its promotional material. Current reports distinguish between actors who have personally confirmed their participation and performers who have only been linked to characters through voice comparisons or other unofficial evidence.
Stephen Root confirms he is in GTA 6
Stephen Root became the latest actor to publicly acknowledge his involvement in Grand Theft Auto VI during a conversation with the Associated Press in September 2026.
When asked about his involvement, Root confirmed that players would see him in the game. He also indicated that his voice had already led fans to identify his involvement from earlier promotional material. Root is widely recognised for his extensive television, film and voice-acting work, including his role as Buck Strickland in King of the Hill.
Root, however, did not identify the character he plays in GTA 6.
His statement is significant because fans had previously associated his distinctive voice with Brian Heder, one of the characters shown in Rockstar’s promotional material. Several gaming publications have reported that Root voices Brian, but the distinction between an actor confirming participation and Rockstar officially crediting that actor for a particular character remains important.
Rockstar has not publicly published a complete cast list confirming Root as Brian Heder. As a result, Root’s involvement can be treated as directly confirmed by the actor, while the specific character attribution remains separately reported.
Jim Santangeli also confirms a small role
Before Root’s comments, Jim Santangeli had already disclosed his participation in GTA 6.
Santangeli, known to Rockstar fans for portraying Simon Pearson in Red Dead Redemption 2, mentioned his involvement during a TikTok livestream in June 2026. He described his contribution as a small part and did not reveal the name of his character or provide details about the scenes he recorded.
The actor’s previous connection with Rockstar makes the revelation notable. Santangeli was part of the cast of Red Dead Redemption 2, one of Rockstar’s most prominent narrative games, where he played Pearson, a member of the Van der Linde gang.
However, his comments do not establish that he has a major role in GTA 6. His own description suggests that his contribution is limited, while the identity of the character remains unknown.
Rockstar has kept the cast largely secret
The secrecy surrounding the GTA 6 cast is unusual even for a major video game release.
Rockstar has officially introduced characters including Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos and several supporting figures through trailers, character pages and other promotional material. However, the studio has not accompanied those character announcements with a comprehensive list of the actors who provide their voices and performances.
According to reporting that tracks the game’s cast, Rockstar’s public character material has not provided actor credits for the principal characters. This has encouraged fans to examine dialogue from trailers and compare voices with actors’ previous performances.
That process has produced several theories about the identities of the performers behind characters in GTA 6. However, voice comparisons and fan theories do not carry the same status as a direct statement from an actor or an official credit from Rockstar.
The distinction is particularly relevant as more names become associated with the game ahead of its release.
Brian Heder connection remains a separate claim
Stephen Root’s confirmation has strengthened one of the most widely discussed casting connections involving GTA 6.
Brian Heder appears in Rockstar’s promotional material as a character connected to Jason. Fans and gaming publications have linked Root’s recognisable voice to the character, with some outlets reporting the casting as established.
Root’s own comments, however, did not include Brian Heder’s name.
That means there are two separate pieces of information: Root has confirmed that he is involved in GTA 6, while reports have connected his voice to Brian Heder. Until Rockstar or Root explicitly confirms the character pairing, the two pieces should not be treated as identical.
This distinction also applies to several other actors who have been linked to GTA 6 through community investigations, previous Rockstar work, social-media activity or other indirect evidence.
The Jason and Lucia casting mystery continues
The identities of the performers behind protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos remain among the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the game.
Fans have previously linked various actors to the two characters, but speculation has continued because Rockstar has not issued a comprehensive cast announcement. Recent reports continue to separate publicly confirmed involvement from unverified casting theories.
Lucia has received particularly intense attention because she is one half of the game’s central criminal partnership alongside Jason. The two characters have featured prominently in Rockstar’s promotional material, but their performers have not been fully credited by the studio.
The situation demonstrates how carefully Rockstar has controlled information about the game. Even with multiple trailers and extended promotional footage available, significant details about the performers remain undisclosed.
Rockstar reportedly reminds actors about confidentiality
The secrecy around the cast has also been reinforced by reports that Rockstar reminded performers involved with the game about their confidentiality obligations.
A report discussed by Insider Gaming, based on claims from the GTAVIoclock podcast, said Rockstar had reminded actors about their non-disclosure agreements and indicated that November 19 was the date on which they could announce their involvement. The report has not been accompanied by a complete public cast announcement from Rockstar.
If accurate, the reported reminder helps explain why actors have provided only limited information about their work on the game.
Santangeli’s brief disclosure and Root’s confirmation therefore offer unusually direct glimpses into a cast that Rockstar has otherwise kept private.
GTA 6 release date remains November 19
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
As the release approaches, further information about the game’s characters and performers could emerge. For now, Jim Santangeli and Stephen Root are among the few actors to have personally acknowledged their participation.
The developments also highlight the importance of separating confirmed information from casting speculation. Root has confirmed that he appears in GTA 6, while Santangeli has confirmed a small contribution. Their specific character assignments, along with much of the wider cast, remain less certain unless confirmed directly by the actors or Rockstar Games.
With the launch date approaching, the game’s secretive casting process is likely to remain a subject of discussion until Rockstar eventually provides more official credits.
