Haveri District in-charge Minister Shivanand Patil has confirmed that cotton trading may be relocated to the APMC facility on Hanagal Road, pending approval from traders. After inspecting APMC yards on Guttal and Hanagal roads on Monday evening, the minister addressed concerns from traders. He emphasized that active traders would receive priority, while acknowledging challenges related to accommodating inactive license holders. He instructed officials to create a plan for the smooth transfer of cotton trading to the new facility.
The Hanagal Market Traders Association, led by president Pundalikappa Shirur, raised concerns over the lack of infrastructure, including damaged roads and inadequate drainage. Shirur urged for the construction of concrete roads and the installation of proper drainage systems to improve the market conditions. He also pointed out a decline in business activity, with traders seeking support to revitalize the market.
APMC secretary GK Kabberahalli revealed that out of 96 plots in the APMC yard, 84 have been allocated, including 10 plots with shops and warehouses, while two plots remain unoccupied. City council member Sanjeev Neeralagi suggested utilizing the unused grain warehouse in Hanagal market. Proposals are also being considered to shift the entire cotton market from Guttal Road to Hanagal Road and repurpose the Guttal Road space for industrial development.
Minister Patil directed officials to focus on developing the market and improving conditions for traders and farmers. Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani and DC Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar attended the meeting.
