On Thursday, a notable celebration took place as MLA Srinivasa Mane, accompanied by a sizable group of supporters and activists, embarked on a padayatra to mark the fullness of the Malagi Dharma Reservoir. This event was particularly significant as it followed a period of continuous rainfall that has rejuvenated the reservoir, prompting a special Ganga Puja to honour the occasion.

The Padayatra Event
The celebratory padayatra commenced from Mantagi village in the morning, covering a 9 km route through Kallahakkala before arriving at the Malagi Dharma Reservoir. The journey was both a tribute to nature’s generosity and a demonstration of communal spirit. Upon reaching the reservoir, MLA Srinivasa Mane and Yallapur MLA Shivram Hebbara performed a Ganga Puja, offering Bagina—a traditional ritual of thanksgiving—in reverence of the reservoir’s replenishment.

Addressing the Gathering
In his address to the attendees, MLA Srinivasa Mane reflected on the stark contrast between past challenges faced by farmers during drought conditions and the current optimism brought about by the recent rains. He highlighted the positive impact of the full Jeevanadi Dharma Reservoir in Hanagal taluk, noting that it now covers an impressive 18,000 acres. This influx of water has not only rejuvenated agricultural prospects but also restored Anikere, a crucial drinking water source for Hanagal city.

Yallapur MLA Shivram Hebbara reinforced these sentiments, acknowledging that while the Dharma reservoir is situated in Mundagoda taluk, its benefits are profoundly felt in Hanagal taluk. He expressed hope that the ample rainfall would translate into successful harvests for local farmers, further underscoring the interconnectedness of regional water resources and agriculture.

Presence of Dignitaries
The padayatra was further dignified by the presence of prominent figures including KPCC members Takanagowda Patila and Khwajamohuddin Jamadar, as well as Bloc Congress presidents Vijayakumar Doddamani and Manju Gorannavara. Their participation added substantial weight to the event, highlighting the collective commitment to regional development and water management.

Focus on Sustainable Water Management
Beyond the immediate celebrations, the padayatra served as a reminder of the ongoing efforts required to maintain the fullness of lakes and dams throughout the region. Sustainable water management is crucial for ensuring that such resources remain reliable for both agricultural and domestic use. The event not only celebrated the current abundance but also reaffirmed the commitment to long-term water management strategies.
