Haveri: In a bid to address the acute drinking water shortage faced by residents last summer, the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL) under the Department of Irrigation has initiated the release of water for various tanks, including the crucial Heggeri tank, reserved for Haveri city’s drinking water supply. Following directives from district minister Shivanand Patil, authorities released water for the Heggeri tank through the Upper Tunga Project (UTP) on Wednesday.
This proactive measure is expected to significantly improve the water supply situation in Haveri, particularly during the summer months. Hanumanthappa V, assistant executive engineer of KNNL, expressed optimism, stating, “We released water for the Heggeri tank on Wednesday. This will help in the supply of drinking water to Haveri city, especially in summer. We hope the tank will fill soon.”
In addition to the Heggeri tank, KNNL has started filling other tanks in the region, including those in Guttal, Negalur, Agadi, and several taluks like Ranebennur and Hirekerur. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure an adequate water supply across various areas, mitigating the risk of future shortages.
Residents are hopeful that these measures will prevent the recurrence of last year’s severe water scarcity, ensuring a stable and reliable water supply for the community.
