Illegal Cattle Transport Foiled Near Mangaluru; Two Cows Dead
In a pre-dawn crackdown on unlawful cattle transportation, police intercepted a white mini goods vehicle near Suralpady Mosque on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Thursday. The driver and two others abandoned the vehicle and fled, leaving behind 15-20 cattle, tied cruelly, likely destined for illegal slaughter.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered the number plates had been removed. Two of the animals succumbed to injuries, while the remaining received veterinary care. The vehicle, later identified as KA 19 AF 1399, was secured at the station for further investigation.
The suspects linked to the case have been identified as Tauseef Peradi and Harine Peradi, while a third person remains unidentified. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that the Tata Yodha truck carrying the cattle was allegedly followed by an Innova (KA 51 N 7118) between Yedapadavu and Suralpady. Chandan, the Innova’s driver, claimed the truck driver had threatened him with a firearm. However, police found no evidence of firearm use after inspecting the scene and CCTV footage. Some signs of physical contact between the vehicles were noted.
A case has been registered at Bajpe Police Station. Sources suggest the interception was made possible due to a tip-off from Bajrang Dal activists, as incidents of illegal cattle transport continue to rise in the region.
