A distressing incident has emerged from Karnataka, where a 14-year-old girl was forcibly taken away by her husband after a marriage ceremony in a remote village near Bengaluru. The event was captured on video by bystanders, which quickly went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
The girl, from Thimmattur village near Hosur, had completed her seventh grade and had expressed her reluctance to marry 29-year-old Madesh, a laborer from a nearby village. After the marriage on March 3, she returned to her home and refused to go with him. Despite her objections, Madesh and his brother pursued her, eventually dragging her away from her relative’s house.
In response to the incident, the All Women Police team from Dhenkanikot took swift action after the girl’s grandmother filed a complaint. Police arrested three individuals, including the groom and his brother, under relevant charges related to forced marriage.
The girl is now safe and staying with her grandparents while investigations continue. This incident highlights the urgent need for enforcement of child protection laws, as under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, marriages involving minors are illegal and void.
